A bittersweet homecoming...
Thank you all for your kind words. It helped get us through a rough few days.
Zu arrived home Saturday morning. It was really hard to see her struggle. She "cried" to us for 30 minutes and continued the crying every time someone would visit - I imagine she was letting out all of her trauma. It took the girls 30 minutes to come downstairs and see her but we didn't push it and they came when they were ready. They did amazingly well, lavishing her with love, despite Zu's scar staring them in the face.
It is now Monday and things are slowly getting back to normal. Dave went off to work, Zuzu is getting up more and more - she actually tried to "play" in the snow today when I took her out to pee. The girls are still recovering from the weekend and have had several meltdowns which I know are related. My mom is spending the week which is so helpful. I feel blessed.
Today we are all feeling a little bit stronger. I get inspiration here and here.

You know Bene,
her dog "yummy" also has lost a leg.. and she's doing just fine.
and the videos - are proof! :]
its amazing how they can adapt, and it's beautiful that they have the power to.
your photo shows alot.

I bet she's still a great pointer! That never leaves those beautiful dogs. I just can't even imagine the emotions. I am close to tears reading this now. Makes me miss our Mo.

welcome home zuzu! i know it won't be long until she's skipping after your girls. this life is so hard sometimes, you move through it with such grace, you (and zuzu) are teaching your daughters that as well. many hugs and slobbery dog kisses.

This is nowhere near as terrible and achingly, heartbreakingly sad as what you all have been through, but our dog tore her ACL in one of her hind knees in the fall (I know, not even close to the same thing, I know), and she had to have surgery in November and she's still limping and not bearing very much weight. But the amazing thing is how *cheerful* she has remained through it. Dogs are really, really inspiring. Thank goodness your family has ZuZu to be inspired by and learn from and love. She's a beautiful girl.

i think she'll soon be a happy dog again. it seems strange to us humans, but what really dogs care about, despite what their condition might be, is having friends who love them. they feel it. and zuzu sure has got them :-)
best wishes!

Sending healing wishes to your whole family. My heart goes out to you all! One of the hardest things with animals is not being able to talk with them about what is happening but they do understand love. And they are so resilient, there are a couple of dogs around our neighbourhood that have lost a leg but you'd really never know it- fast, happy and healthy! I'm sure your Zuzu will be the same, especially with such a supportive, loving family.

Wow. I just wandered along tonight. I was surfing Flickr Explore and saw a photo of Zuzu and your daughter. I clicked on it, closely followed by my curiosity to Zuzu's album. I saw the puppy photo of her on the sofa - Beautiful. I showed it to my 13 y/o daughter who said, "I think you've showed me that photo before." Skeptical, I wandered though the album and came across the photo of Zuzu lying on your daughter and realized that I have, indeed, wandered by your photostream before. A few more clicks led me here, and now my heart is breaking. I"m so sorry for everything your family has been through, but so glad for Zuzu that she has such a wonderful family to love her and stick though the good times and bad. Not all dogs are so lucky. My heart goes out to you and your family tonight.
